LCC - Leatherball Cricket Club

Background :-

It's been more than three years I have moved to Hyderabad from Delhi and since then I am organizing cricket matches for my office.

I invested my time in motivating, mentoring, managing, giving a wake up call and what not to my office people just to build a good team and play cricket with them but nothing worked and people had there excuses for not turning up.

Organizing cricket matches for my office for three years made me understand that there are lot's of people in my office who's doesn't want to play and there are lot's of people outside who want to play but are not getting enough chance or team to play.

Foundation :-

Since I was already organizing cricket for my office, so I thought  let's do it for the players outside my office who are more than motivated and willing to play cricket and give back something to the sports that I am playing since my childhood.

So on January 6th, I founded Leatherball Cricket Club with the purpose of providing an opportunity to play cricket to the people who are willing to play.

Why the name Leatherball Cricket Club (LCC) :-

There is a quote by "Rick Riordan" from "The Lightening Thief" which I have already mentioned in my previous blog post that "Names have power". (See Here)

I wanted this club to attract right kind of people who are willing to play Leather Ball Cricket, So the first thing that came to my mind is to name it Leatherball Cricket Club (LCC).

People tends to get attracted for fancy names, and It may look awkward to the few new people but slowly they will accept it the way they have accepted

Why Meetup Platform :-

Being from technical background I didn't want to do paperwork while managing events and number of players who wanted to join our group. So I decided to go through the technological way.

Idea to develop our own web solution and android app came to the mind but it was time taking and too much of effort, so finally I decided to go with some interest  based social networking site like Doorkeeper, Eventbrite, EventNinja, Plancast, Ticketleap and Meetup.

Finally we chose to place our cricket club on meetup.com and there were various reasons to do that.

• It is a social networking site for interest based groups.
• Hyderabad youth are already aware with meetup.com
• It provides an easy way to post events and manage people.

Initial Days :-

The journey started with few people coming to nets including roommates and few regular office members, it took some time to pickup the pace and people from meetup started turning up.

By the end of two months we had number of people joining on and off from meetup and we were ready to take off.

Journey So Far :- 

Currently we have two teams which plays regular matches and attends net.

One is LCC Hawks and another is LCC Hammers.

We have created our Facebook page and You Tube channel where we post our event details and videos.
But still I believe there are lot more to do and lot more to achieve.
